The YSR Congress party is hell bent on making the “Chenetha Dharna” (Weavers’ agitation) in Siricilla town of Karimnagar district on Monday a grand success at any cost, notwithstanding the strong resistance from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the Telangana Joint Action Committee.
According to YSR Congress party leaders, arrangements are being made to mobilize 10,000 weavers to the day-long dharna to be taken up by party’s honorary president Y S Vijayamma.
“We won’t be surprised if the turnout is much more than what we expect because there is a tremendous response to our party in the villages. Wherever our party activists went, the people are coming forward voluntarily,” YSRCP spokesman Bajireddy Goverdhan said.
A tense atmosphere is prevailing in Siricilla, as the TRS and TJAC called for a bandh in the town on Monday on occasion of Vijayamma dharna. They are also organizing “dhoom dham” cultural programme on Sunday evening to expose the anti-weaver policies adopted by YSR government in the past.
Though the police authorities have given her permission following the high court directions, they are not ruling out eruption of violent incidents during her visit.
