Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu is desperate to win back the confidence of the Backward Classes, which had been the backbone of the party till 2004. His recent announcement that he would give 100 party tickets to the BCs in the 2014 elections and fight for one-third reservations for BCs in the assembly and parliament, evoked good response from these sections.
Enthused by the response, Naidu on Tuesday went a step ahead and declared that if there are efficient leaders, he would not hesitate to give tickets to more than 100 BC candidates in the next elections.
“There is no question of going back on my promise. We will show how we will implement the BC declaration,” he said and called upon the weaker sections to unite and fight for their rights.
Reacting to the criticism against him on the BC declaration, the TDP president challenged his critics to come out with a better package for the BC welfare. He hopes that the BCs would acknowledge the services of the TDP in its previous regimes.
