Can Naidu get back support in Telangana?

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu is said to be more worried about the party’s position in the Telangana region, than in the Seemandhra region where there is already a wave in favour of YSR Congress party.

According to the party sources, Naidu has realized that his party would lose its identity if it cannot win at least 50 seats in the next assembly elections, leave alone coming to power or retaining its 2009 figure of 92 seats. And the party is relatively stronger in the Telangana region, where it had won 38 seas in 2009. But after the December 9, 2009 fiasco, the TDP has gradually lost its ground thanks to the two-eyed policy adopted by Naidu.

Following the consistent debacles the party received in the Telangana region in all the by-elections since 2009, Naidu has realized that his two-eyed policy has boomeranged on him. He is now of the opinion that if he can convince the people of Telangana that his party is also in favour of Telangana state, his party might get at least 20-25 seats in this region. For that, he might write a letter to the Centre in support of Telangana; but at the same time, he would frame the wordings in such a way that it would not affect the party in Seemandhra region.

In spite of that, one doubts whether the people of Telangana would ever believe Naidu. For, they have now understood that it was Naidu who had stalled the process for Telangana state formation after the December 9 statement of home minister P Chidambaram. Such is the credibility of the TDP supremo!
