Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Palwai Goverdhan Reddy, who claims to be a strong loyalist of Gandhi family, faced a humiliation of sorts on Thursday when AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi cancelled the appointment given to the former abruptly.

Palwai was supposed to meet Rahul on Thursday evening to discuss the state of affairs of the party in Andhra Pradesh and also discuss the Telangana statehood issue.

When the senior landed in New Delhi in the morning, he got the message from Rahul’s office that his appointment had been cancelled. Instead, Rahul gave the appointment to another Youth Congress leader for talks.

Though the exact reason for the abrupt cancellation of appointment is not immediately known, sources said Rahul was terribly upset with the media reports which quoted Palwai making comments about the meeting. The Congress MP told the media in Hyderabad on Wednesday that Rahul had sought his advice on repairing the party in the state. A disappointed Palwai booked the return ticket to Hyderabad immediately.
