In a big relief for Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, the Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down a petition filed against him which alleged that he had cheated the people of Telangana by changing his stand on the state bifurcation.
The petition was filed by two Telangana lawyers who had argued that Naidu had won considerable number of seats in Telangana in the 2009 elections, by stating that his party was in favour of Telangana statehood.
However, his party had changed the stand after the December 9 statement of home minister P Chidambaram, which amounts to betrayal of the people of the region, they argued.
However, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition saying it would not like to interfere in the politically-influenced cases. “We cannot make any judgements in the cases which involve political reasons,” the SC said.
Going by this, one wonders whether Naidu would get the same judgement from the Supreme Court with the regard to the petition filed by YSR Congress party honorary president Y S Vijayamma.
