The controversy over release of Krishna water from Nagarjunasagar to Krishna delta is an indication to the impending war between Andhra and Telangana regions for irrigation and drinking water.
This was the opinion expressed by Congress MP from Guntur Rayapati Sambasiva Rao.
“The release of water from Krishna river to the delta region has been going on since the days of British empire. Nobody has the right to stop this practice,” he said, conveniently ignoring the fact that Nagarjunasagar was constructed only four decades ago, after the British had left India.
Rayalati said if this was the situation now, it would turn worse if the Telangana state was granted.
“There would be more wars for water in future, if the state is bifurcated,” he warned.
Meanwhile, Congress MLAs from Krishna Malladi Vishnu and Jogi Ramesh said the release of water to Krishna delta was only in the interest of the state and it would not affect the interests of any particular region. The water would be released to the delta by July 4, they said.
