The brainstorming session convened by Pradesh Congress Committee with cabinet ministers at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday is believed to be yet another futile exercise to revive the beleaguered Congress party in the state.
The meeting was held at the behest of the Congress high command to do a sincere soul searching and identity the actual reasons for the party’s debacle in the recent by-elections, besides preparing a road map for the party’s revival in the state in the next two years. PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy called upon the ministers to prepare a comprehensive report within 15 days on why the party had fared so badly in the by-elections despite the implementation of welfare and developmental programmes in a big way.
According to political observers, the brainstorming meeting was just an eye-wash and also a self-deceiving exercise. Everybody in the Congress party, particularly the PCC chief and the chief minister, are very well aware as to what had gone wrong with the party in the by-elections. If Kiran feels he is running the government excellently, he is only fooling himself. Apart from the sympathy wave for YSR Congress party, there were various factors that led to the growing dissatisfaction of the people against the Congress government: abnormal price rise of essential commodities, power cuts, unusual power tariff hike, RTC fare hike, lack of implementation of schemes like Arogyasri and fee reimbursement etc, besides neglect of agriculture sector.
It is for sure that the so-called report of the ministers’ panel will definitely not have any of these reasons.
