Former Congress Legislator Party leader and late Khairatabad MLA P Janardhan Reddy, popularly known as PJR, was a staunch opponent of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. He and Sanathnagar MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy, together called Hyderabad brothers, fought tooth and nail against YSR’s plan of taking Krishna water to Rayalaseema by expanding Pothireddypadu project.
PJR’s son P Vishnuvardhan Reddy, now Jubilee Hills MLA, was also against YSR and has been opposing YSR’s son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy right from the beginning. However, his sister P Vijaya Reddy, who unsuccessfully tried for the Congress ticket for Khairatabad in 2009 elections, has now decided to join YSR Congress party headed by Jaganmohan Reddy for a secure political future.
Vijaya met Jagan in Chanchalguda jail on Wednesday and expressed her sympathies with him. She told the media later that she would join the YSR Congress party as and when she felt necessary and recalled that late YSR used to encourage her to enter politics.
Though Vijaya Reddy is entering active politics for the first time, she is not new to the people of this constituency. She campaigned extensively for Vishnu in 2008 by-elections to Khairatabad. Secondly, she is leading several educational institutions in the area and her husband Bhagavath Reddy is a well-known industrialist.
