Yanamala: 'Centre Should Not Make Suggestions'

AP Finance Minister Yenamala Ramakrishnudu has reacted negatively to a proposal made by the Centre asking the state government to dissolve the Legislative Council.

He has categorically stated that the Centre should not be making such inappropriate suggestions.

Yenamala clarified that three-fourth majority is required in the state Assembly to dissolve the Legislative Council and added that Centre should refrain from encroaching upon state issues.

Since there is a provision in the Constitution for a Legislative Council, the Centre should not try to impose their view on the states, said Yenamala.

Incidentally, Yenamala Ramakrishnudu is also an MLC. He was the Council opposition leader before TDP came into power.

However, it is interesting to note that way back in 1985, then chief minister late NTR decided to dissolve the Legislative Council. It was revived by late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy once he became the chief minister in 2004.
