The ruling TRS in Telangana is trying to use Dalit Ph.D student Rohit Vemula's suicide at University of Hyderabad campus on Sunday, as a weapon to target BJP and to derive maximum political mileage out of this issue in the ensuing GHMC elections.
With police booking case against the BJP leader and union minister hailing from Hyderabad, Bandaru Dattatreya, for writing a letter to UMHRD minister Smriti Irani seeking action against UoH dalit students, which led suspension of five dalit students, including Rohit, the TRS has stepped up ante against BJP to corner it in GHMC elections
KCR's daughter and NIzamabad MP K Kavitha already made a demand to sack Dattatreya from the cabinet and alleged that the letter written by Dattatreya to Smriti Irani led to suicide by Dalit student on the campus.
Kavitha, who also heads Telangana Jagruthi, has asked her activists to intensify protests against BJP and Dattatreya.
Following this, Jagruthi activists held a flash demonstration in front of Dattatreya's residence in Secunderabad on Tuesday morning.
Tension prevailed at his residence as Jagruthi activists clashed with BJP activists when they were prevented by them to barge into Dattatreya's residence.
Police rushed to the spot and took agitators into custody.
