The Harder Side Of Software!

The Harder Side Of Software!

Ever since PV Narasimha Rao ushered in the economic reforms way back in 1991, the 'software industry' has been at the forefront of India’s success story.

Software professionals today dictate the shape of both cultural and material change in India today.

Needless to say, a software professional heads the priority list of people looking for a partner in marriage today.

The company he or she works for and their pay packages are taking precedence over the more important attribute of ‘character’!

Unfortunately, the downside to working in the software sector can also be a bit unnerving! Of late, software giant, TCS has been in the news for sacking many employees including highly experienced ones via the ‘involuntary attrition route’.

Forget landing jobs in other companies, the sacked employees are finding it difficult to get past even job consultants as they carry the tag "under performer".

In the private sector which believes in the ‘hire-and-fire system’, there is not much which these employees can expect from their companies which would have covered themselves well legally, but what is mystifying to see is the likes of TCS firing employees who have been with the company for more than ten years.

“It is really strange. I have worked with TCS for twelve years. They have now fired me citing ‘under-performance’. Did it take them the better part of a decade to realize that?” questions an employee, rightfully!

More than 15000 employees are believed to have been given the dreaded ‘pink slip’ and there’s more to come.

All the sacked employees are now considering legal action against their employers. They might not get anything in terms of compensation, but their appeal against being branded ‘under performers’ is definitely a valid one.
