No Politicization Of Academic Appointments

Hyderabad: Taking recourse to the GO route, the TRS government has relaxed the norms for appointment of vice-chancellors to the various universities in Telangana.

The previous rules ordained that a vice-chancellor should have a minimum of ten-years of experience as professor and it was the Governor who was responsible for these appointments.

The new GO passed by the government reduced the necessary experience to five years apart from making the state government responsible for the appointment of VC’s and curtailing the role of the Governor.

This is not a healthy move by the TRS! Academic institutions will lose their credibility and standards if politicians interfere in the appointments.

If a Vice-Chancellor is a political appointee then he will have to stand up from his chair each time every Tom, Dick and Harry from the ruling party walks into his chambers.

Let not temples of learning become an instrument in the hands of politicians.
