HC Raps KCR Govt On Transport Tax

The High Court here on Wednesday took a dig at the K Chandrasekhara Rao government on collecting transport tax from vehicles coming to Hyderabad from Andhra Pradesh.

Delivering an order in response to a petition filed by the Tirumala Cabs Association challenging a circular issued by the Telangana government, the High Court said no tax should be collected from the vehicles plying in the two States till March next year.

It may be mentioned here that the Governor had issued GO No 43 on June 1 stating that transport tax paid in any of the Telugu States would be enough for movement.

Contrary to the Governor’s orders, the Telangana government amended the GO and issued circular No. 586 and started collecting transport tax from the vehicles coming from the Seemandhra region.

The High Court directed both the States to honour GO No. 43 issued by the Government on the issue of transport tax.

Meanwhile, AP Minister K Achannaidu criticised the Telangana government’s decision on Transport Tax. He accused KCR of indulging in provocation. KCR is holding a responsible post of chief minister and the alleged move of TRS government is unwarranted, he added.
