BATA's 8th Annual Volleyball Tournament - A Grand Success

Bay Area Telugu Association (BATA) organized it’s 8th Annual Volleyball Tournament on June 14th , 2014at Sunnyvale, California. Proceeds from the tournament were donated to the “India Literacy Project “(ILP) projects in India.

Ravi Tax Services was the tournament grand sponsor and the food sponsor  was Dosa N’ Biryani Indian Cuisine. Additionally, Scopus Consulting Group, Swagat Indian Cuisine, Peacock Indian Cuisine, You smile Dental, My Tax Filer, Budwal and Associates, Lavanya Duvvi (Telugu Realtor), Positive Positioning, Astro Vastu, , International Technology University (ITU) & Shree Jewelers  were the other sponsors for the event.

Due to the overwhelming response and on public request, this year the organizers added  new  categories “Youth” and “Little Champs”, there were 3 groups “Advanced”, “Intermediate" & “Recreation” for Men and one group for Women. In total over 40 teams participated in this event, involving more than 300 players. The playing ground was packed with well-prepared players and enthusiastic supporters and fans. The tournament started early morning around 8am and went throughout the day till 8pm.

In the 1st round, the games were round-robin format and top 2 teams in each group advanced into the quarter finals. The teams participating varied from seasoned volleyball teams to casual players who wanted to come and support the cause. Most of the matches were very closely contested. The audience enjoyed several nail biting matches.  In all the matches players exhibited their skills and style with huge spikes and returns resulting in long rallies.

Tournament Organizers Shiv Peparthi  & Prasad Mangina thanked all the teams for their participation and continued support  in organizing this successful tournament and said the money raised will help lot of needy students in India. Smitha Kumar (Touch-3) was specially acknowledged for taking care of all the women & youth category matches.

Speaking on the occasion Kalyan Kattamuri (BATA President) said he is extremely happy with the response and congratulated all the players for their dedication and playing the sport with right spirit. 

Kalyan introduced BATA committee consisting of  Sirisha Battula (Vice President) , Yaswanth Kudaravalli (Secretary) , Sumanth Pusuluri (Treasurer) Harinath Chikoti(Joint Secretary).

“Steering Committee” consisting of former BATA presidents Prasad Mangina , Ravi Thiruveedula, Ramesh Konda & Kamesh Malla.

“Cultural Committee” includes Sridevi Pasupuleti, Kiran Vinnakota,Taraka Deepti & Rathna Pandian.

“Logistics Team” includes Srikar Boddu, Naresh Gajula & Hari Moyyi.

BATA “Advisory Board” Jayaram Komati, Vijaya Aasuri & Veeru Vuppala congratulated the team in making the tournament a grand success.

BATA Committee thanked RajKishore, Kartik (ILP), Srikant Koneru, Arun, Prashant, Yugandhar, Delma and all BATA & ILP volunteers for their support and efforts in organizing the tournament and ensuring all matches were conducted on time. BATA committee specially thanked all the sponsors for their continued support

Viji Doraiswamy (ILP – Coordinator) thanked BATA for their support and said the money raised from this tournament will be spent towards providing free education to children in India.Viji also briefed about various projects ILP is currently doing in India.

BATA committee presented the check (proceeds from the tournament) to ILP.
