AIADMK's TTV Dinakaran Arrested At Midnight

Mumbai: AIADMK (Amma) leader TTV Dinakaran, accused of attempting to bribe Election Commission officials to reclaim the party's disputed and now frozen "two leaves" symbol, was arrested close to midnight by the Delhi Police on Tuesday.

The arrest comes after the 53-year-old was questioned in the national capital by the Crime Branch for four consecutive days.

Along with Mr Dinakaran, his friend Mallikarjuna has also been arrested. Mr Mallikarjuna is alleged to have sheltered Mr Dinakaran despite the police looking for him.

Police say Mr Dinakaran had confessed to meeting Sukesh Chandrasekar, the middleman who was earlier arrested in the case. However, the AIADMK leader maintains that he did not pay any money to Mr Chandrasekar.

The case pertains to an alleged attempt to bribe an Election Commission (EC) official by AIADMK (Amma) leader Dhinakaran to try to get the party's poll symbol of 'two leaves' for a by-election to the R K Nagar Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu. The polling was later cancelled by the EC.
