Contrary to the belief that YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was doing backdoor lobbying with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to wriggle out of the cases against him, it now appears he, in fact, wants to take the BJP leadership head on.
YSR Congress party has decided to go all out against the Narendra Modi government on the demonetisation issue.
“We shall wait till the December 30 deadline fixed by the Prime Minister. If situation does not improve after December 30, we will be taking up the people’s cause. We will chalk out an action plan for agitation,” party official spokesperson Tammineni Sitaram said.
The party has sought an appointment with Governor E S L Narasimhan to apprise him of the situation.
“Demonetisation has put people to great suffering with health, farming and other core sectors getting badly affected. Such a major decision was taken unilaterally without taking Opposition parties and Parliament into confidence but looks like it was announced in a hurry,” he said.
The secrecy is to take the cash hoarders by surprise but the government has no account of who or how many people are there holding unaccounted money.
“While the government has announce that only Rs 2.5 lakh would be allowed to be drawn for marriages, we have seen BJP leaders performing the marriage of their kin on a grand scale. Many people have postponed the marriages due to demonetization,” he said.
