Will TDP Support KVP Bill?

Congress MP K V P Ramachandra Rao is going to make yet another attempt to introduce a private member bill in Rajya Sabha next Friday seeking special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

Last time, he could not succeed in his attempt, as it came up before the House on the last day of the House, which was dedicated to giving farewell to the outgoing members.

KVP managed to mobilise the support of majority of the Opposition members for the bill. Even the TDP has extended support to KVP bill superficially, knowing fully well that it does not come before the House; only to claim that it was also fighting for the special status.

However, this time the TDP is unlikely to support the bill since it does not want to run the Centre on wrong shoulders.

“We are gathering the support of all the parties for the special status bill. Let us see whether the TDP will extend its support. From our side, we are issuing whip to all our members to vote in favour of the special status. If the TDP also wants it, it has to issue similar whip to its RS members,” Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said.
