Will 'Cashless Village' Concept Work Out?

Will 'Cashless Village' Concept Work Out?

The much-publicised cashless village concept across the country seems to be of just hype rather than a practical solution to the currency crisis.

Much has been written about Ibrahimpur, the village adopted by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao in his Siddipet constituency.

It has been declared as the first cashless village in entire South India. Yet, many villagers have expressed view that they cannot continue for long without cash in their hands. Especially old people have no knowledge of debit cards or swiping machines. They all want just cash.

This is being admitted by the TRS legislators themselves in private conversations.

“Harish might have succeeded in convincing people of one village. He might replicate it some more villages. But it is not practically not possible to make the entire state cashless. Especially, factory workers and agriculture labourers are not ready to go digital. We have to face the consequences. Even KCR knows this, but he has to appease the Prime Minister,” a TRS legislator said.
