Why Naidu Dropped Idea To Field Fourth Candidate?

Why Naidu Dropped Idea To Field Fourth Candidate?

Contrary to the expectations, Telugu Desam Party president and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has dropped the idea of fielding a fourth candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections to defeat the YSR Congress party candidate V Vijay Sai Reddy.

Till Tuesday afternoon, Naidu had plans to field the fourth candidate, albeit as an independent.

He held meeting with 17 YSRC MLAs who had defected to the TDP and asked their views. He also declared that he would not allow a CBI case accused to go to Rajya Sabha.

He asked Nellore industrialist Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy be ready to contest and spend money on buying more YSRC MLAs to win the seat.

But as the deadline came closer, Naidu dropped the idea. Sources said it was his close friend and union minister M Venkaiah Naidu who had advised him against fielding the fourth candidate, as it would create troubles for the official candidates if the elections are compulsory.

Jagan has taken the elections prestigiously and he would not hesitate to spend money to buy even the TDP MLAs, if necessary. So, it is better to drop out and allow the candidates to get elected unopposed, he told Naidu. And the latter had no option but to keep quiet.
