The sudden outburst of power star and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan against the Telugu Desam Party government over the mysterious deaths of people due to renal failures in Uddanam area in Srikakulam and his 48-hour deadline to the Chandrababu Naidu government to respond on the issue has irked the TDP leaders and ministers.
It was really surprising on the part of Pawan to wake up so late on the issue, since Uddanam kidney deaths is not a new phenomenon.
For over a decade, such deaths have been reported and the successive governments, both the Congress and the TDP, have done enough work to find out the root cause of this mysterious development.
Even research institutes and medical experts toured in the area, studied the water and food samples to find out the reason. A particular rice strain was found to be the reason, but it was not exactly established. Independent studies have been going on in this area. So, there is nothing that the so-called experts committee appointed by Pawan Kalyan can find out.

“Under the given circumstances, the only thing the government can do is to provide treatment to the patients. It has set up dialysis units to provide relief to the patients. The government is spending money on providing free treatment to them,” health minister Kamineni Srinivas said.
Local MP K Rammohan Naidu said it was wrong on the part of Pawan Kalyan to say that nobody had highlighted the issue at the national level.
“I raised the issue in Lok Sabha and spoke for a long time. We have been touring the areas regularly to provide succour to the victims,” he said.
