The latest comment made by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao while referring to the struggle to achieve special category status to Andhra Pradesh has raised many eye brows.
During his interaction with students in Eluru three days ago, Jagan said one should have fighting spirit like KCR.
“Nobody expected that Telangana state would be carved out by dividing Andhra Pradesh. But KCR, a stubborn man that he is, had achieved it by putting up a spirited fight. So, if we display the same fighting spirit, why can’t we achieve special category status to Andhra Pradesh?” he asked.
Obviously, Jagan wanted to take a dig at AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for meekly surrendering to the Narendra Modi government without fighting for the special category status. But, in the process, he inadvertently supported the Telangana formation by praising KCR’s ability to fulfil the people’s aspirations.
Analysts say it is a bad comparison. Comparing special category status with separate Telangana has not gone down well into the people.
“In a bid to attack his immediate rival, Jagan sought to praise KCR, who was responsible for the present state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh. That will not fetch him the required mileage,” an analyst said.
