When it came to a question of their salaries, the AP employees were uncompromising and finally succeeded in getting a fitment of 43%, which is no small increase.
But when it comes to the question of shifting to Vijayawada, they come up with all kinds of excuses such as children’s education, lack of accommodation, lack of nightlife (in the case of higher placed officials) etc.
It’s about time they were dealt with firmly and Chandrababu Naidu is absolutely right in making it clear that there would be no extension of the deadline for shifting of government employees beyond June 1, 2016.
After bifurcation, knowing fully well that AP was facing a huge revenue deficit, these employees went ahead with their strike demanding increase in wages and that too substantially. But when it comes to making a few sacrifices for the rejuvenation of AP, they think up all kinds of excuses.
Granted that Vijayawada is no Hyderabad, but somebody has to make the first move and the rest will follow.
The Chief Minister on his part should lead from the front by following a temperate style of living in accordance with the ground realities rather than excessive lavishes at the exchequer’s expense which would be an eyesore to the general public.
