What Made Naidu Suspect Shilpa's Loyalty?

What Made Naidu Suspect Shilpa's Loyalty?

There seems to be more than one reason for Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for denying the party ticket to former minister Shilpa Mohan Reddy for the ensuing Nandyal assembly by-elections.

One of the reasons was revealed by Shilpa himself after he resigned from the TDP.

He said though he was in the TDP for three years, his role model and godly figure was former chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.

“Despite being the TDP leader, I did not have the picture of either N T Rama Rao or Chandrababu Naidu at my residence or office. The only photograph that adorned the wall in my residence was that of YSR. He was my political guru,” Shilpa said.

Naturally, it would have gone to the notice of Naidu, who had been suspecting the loyalty of Shilpa right from the beginning.

In fact, many times, Shilpa had directly threatened Naidu that if he was not given the party ticket from Nandyal, he would resign from the party and join the YSR Congress party. That made Naidu more upset.

And there was no guarantee that he would not join the YSRC before the elections as well, even if he was given the party ticket for Nandyal by-elections.

And Shilpa now says he had decided to join the YSRC not because he would get a seat for Nandyal bypolls, but because he was very much impressed by the party’s policies and his love for YSR.

If that was the case, one wonders why he had joined the TDP earlier. He made similar statement then, saying he was impressed with the TDP policies!
