Urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu had a taste of Barcelona's notorious pickpocket and bag thieves just hours before he was to fly back after his trip to the “smart city“.His bag that had passport and other belongings were stolen from a hotel lobby in Barcelona.
The whole world came to know about this following two tweets posted on Naidu's account “Somebody stole bag containing my passport along with other documents in the lobby of hotel where I was staying at Barcelona“ and “Later the passport was found on the street a few yards away from the hotel but no trace of other documents and bag.“
Sources said that the tweets were posted by an official, who manages the minister's twitter handle. By late evening the two tweets were removed.
Media has learnt that the passport of Naidu's OSD was also stolen. After the intervention of the Indian Embassy , he could also fly back.
Naidu was in Spain at the invitation of Barcelona mayor Xavier Trias to inaugurate and address “Smart City Expo World Congress“.
