Tuni Arrests: Pavan Silent, Chiru Reacts

The arrest of Kapu strongman and former minister Mudragada Padmanabham who has been on fast in protest against the arrests of some Kapu youth in connection with the Tuni violence of January is snowballing into a major agitation.

However, there has been no response from power star Pavan Kalyan, who had cancelled his shooting schedule during the Tuni incident in the past and reacted strongly.

But, his brother and Congress MP Chiranjeevi came out with strong condemnation of the Tuni arrests.

In his letter to Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the mega star alleged that Naidu government was resorting to arrests only to create a rift in the Kapu movement. He said the government was acting unilaterally in arresting the youth.

“There is no doubt people responsible for the violence should be brought to book, but it has to be done in accordance with the law and not according to the whims and fancies of the government,” he said.

Chiranjeevi reminded the statement of the Chief Minister in the past that the violence was perpetrated by outsiders and not the people from East Godavari district. “But what is happening now is the arrests of innocent youth from Godavari districts. What does Naidu say about this?” he asked.
