Toddy shops back in Telangana from Dasara

Telangana Excise Minister T Padma Rao on Tuesday announced that toddy shops would be re-opened in and around Hyderabad by Dasara.

Speaking to media persons after holding a review with the top official at the State Secretariat, Padma Rao said that all toddy shops in Hyderabad and adjoining areas of Ranga Reddy district would be re-opened.

He said the government would act tough against those indulging in adulteration of liquor and they would be booked under PD Act.

He said that the government was providing all facilities to the Excise Staff and a proposal to provide them weapons has been sent to the government.

He said all Excise Police Stations in the State would be shifted to their own buildings in the next one year.

He also informed that there were no takers for as many as 106 wine shops in the city and the same would be run by the Beverages Corporation if no one comes forward after fresh notification.

It may be mentioned that it was on October 1, 2004, when the then Congress government of Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy banned the 103 toddy shops in the then municipal limits of Hyderabad and another 17 in the adjoining areas of Ranga Reddy district on the charges of adulteration.
