A nation is as good as its leaders and Mamata Banerjee is an excellent example of why we continue to lag behind other countries.
The swine flu virus is causing a panic in West Bengal and thousands of people wearing the protective masks has become a common sight in Kolkata.
In being questioned by the media about the state of affairs, Mamata said that swine flu is caused by mosquitoes, leaving the journalists dumb struck. This was a week earlier.
Now, the CM has gone a step further in her directives to the Health Department. In a bid to curb the menace of swine-flu, Mamata has instructed officials to catch and isolate pigs.
She apparently believes that swine-flu originates from pigs because of the name. That is not the case. The H1N1 virus was first detected in pigs and hence the name even though pigs do not transmit the virus to humans.
Compared to Mamata Banerjee, Rajaiah appears like an Einstein. It is really sad that being the CM, she does not even have proper information on such a threatening virus.
