The Good, The Bad And The Ugly!

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly!

The BJP never had it this good in Andhra Pradesh before! A bevy of disgruntled and out-of-work politicians are making a beeline to join the ‘Saffron Party’ in the presence of Amit Shah when he tours the State in January.

And they are no second rung politicians but people who have held some of the highest positions like Chief Minister and Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MP’s to the portfolio of PCC President.

Indulging in a bit of political humor, we may classify them as the ‘good, bad and ugly’.

Good: Kiran Kumar Reddy. Clearly, he is a prize catch for the BJP. Kiran did an outstanding job as the ‘Speaker’ of the AP Assembly and took over when Rossaiah resigned as the ‘CM’.

During his tenure, Kiran faced and dealt with problems normally faced by CM’s in a nine-year rule, yet he did a splendid job whether it be the handling of the ‘Sakala Janula Samme’, the cyclone crisis or bringing investments to the State.

Kiran also maintained the dignity of the Chief Minister’s chair by not retorting in a similar vein to KCR’s statements. A proven administrator and a gentleman, Kiran is definitely an asset to the BJP.

Bad: Harsha Kumar. During the ‘Samaikhyandhra agitation’, his sons were guilty of manhandling the agitators who were targeting the buses of the educational institutions owned by his family. This brought him a very bad name.

The TDP also alleged that Harsha Kumar was behind the riots in the Regency Factory in Yanam in which officer of operations of the factory, Mr. Chandrasekhar was killed.

Harsha Kumar resigned from the Congress after bifurcation and fought the elections on ‘Jai Samaikhyandhra ticket’ and lost. He is a Kiran loyalist and also will join the BJP with Kiran.

Bad: Lagadapati Rajagopal. Was one of the first opponents of the TRS and created a lot of hope for the Seemandhra people. However, he remained a silent spectator to the bifurcation, refusing to resign until the eleventh hour and apart from spraying pepper spray in Parliament, did nothing for the people!

A typical politician, who it is believed was out to save his own assets rather than work for the people.

Lagadapati said that he would quit politics forever if the State was bifurcated. So, it remains to be seen whether he would stick to his promise!

Ugly: Bothsa Satyanarayana. Was the last PCC President of United Andhra Pradesh! Bothsa supported the formation of Telangana for he had aspirations of becoming the CM of divided Andhra Pradesh. So disgusted were the people of his hometown Vizianagaram, that they resorted to violence and destroying his properties, something unheard of in the history of Vizianagaram.

Bothsa was also an accused in the ‘Volkswagen scam’ and the ‘liquor syndicate’ controversy.

Ugly: Sabbam Hari. Elected to Parliament from Anakapalle on a Congress ticket, Sabbam Hari then openly sided with YS Jagan and making defamatory statements against the Congress, all the while enjoying the perks and privileges of being a Congress MP.

After he was sidelined by Jagan too, he started making allegations against Jagan and joined Kiran’s Jai Samaikhyandhra Party.

Given the opportunity to contest the MP Polls from Vizag, he backed out at the last minute backstabbing Kiran. What’s more, he even took credit for BJP candidate, Hari Babu’s victory in Vizag saying that Hari Babu won because he had asked the voters to vote for Hari Babu.
