Telangana: OU Tense Again

It is back to turmoil in Telangana region, particularly Hyderabad.

Tension prevailed on the Osmania University Campus, the epicenter of the Telangana statehood movement, on Wednesday when the police obstructed a rally taken out by the university students at the NCC Gate.

Scores of students took out a rally protesting against the reported proposal of the central government to carve out a Rayala-Telangana state.

However, the alert police personnel obstructed the students march at the NCC gate when they tried to gatecrash.

The police did not allow the students as there was no permission for taking out any rally from the OU campus. There was a scuffle between the agitating students and the police on duty.

There are fears over possible violence in Telangana region on December 5 in view of the bandh call given by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) protesting against the UPA government's latest proposal on formation of Rayala Telangana state by clubbing Kurnool and Anantapur districts with Telangana region.

If the Centre persists with the Rayala Telangana proposal, then the Telangana region will see another bout of political and social turbulence, affecting the student community most.

The TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has already warned of launching a major battle if the Centre went back on its original promise of granting Telangana state with ten districts and Hyderabad as capital.

The TRS would hold its Politburo meeting on December 6 to chalk out future course of agitation if the central cabinet goes ahead with approving the Rayala Telangana proposal.
