TDP Heckles Jagan's Deeksha For Farmers

The ruling Telugu Desam Party has sought to run down YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for decided to take up a two-day deeksha at Guntur to highlight the plight of farmers who were not getting proper remunerative prices.

Jagan has announced that he would stage a deeksha in Guntur on April 26 and 27 to protest against the government’s indifferent attitude towards farmers.

The announcement followed his recent visit to Guntur chilli yard, where farmers were protesting against fall in prices of chillies due to cartelisation in the market yard.

The venue of the deeksha is yet to be decided and will be announced once the permission from the authorities concerned is approved.

But Andhra Pradesh Minister of Agriculture Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy wondered why Jagan had chosen to stage deeksha though the government was taking all steps to rescue farmers.

“I am unable to understand the reason behind the deeksha. I don’t know whether the doctors advised Jagan to undertake fast for two days for his health,” he ridiculed.

He said that the state government is ahead in agriculture, irrigation and also regarding farmers compared to other states in the country.
