TDP Has No Future, Says Shilpa

Senior leader Shilpa Mohan Reddy, who resigned from the Telugu Desam Party on Monday after realising that he might not be getting the party ticket for Nandyal by-elections, is now saying the TDP has no future in Andhra Pradesh.

He told media on Tuesday that he had decided to join the YSR Congress party only because he had realised that the TDP had no future in the state.

“I have not imposed any pre-conditions for joining the YSR Congress party. There is no deal with the YSRC leadership whatsoever. I have taken the decision only in the best interest of my political future,” Shilpa said.

He said he had served the TDP for three years, but he hardly got anything from it.

“I am not happy with the way some leaders in Nandyal are behaving. Hence, I quit the party,” he said.

Shilpa expressed view that his resignation from the TDP might have an impact on the prospects of his brother Shilpa Chakraprani Reddy, who is continuing in the TDP.

“I am not sure whether they allow him to continue in the party,” he said.

One wonders why the hell Shilpa had tried for the TDP ticket desperately till the eleventh hour, if he thinks the TDP has no future in the state.

It was pretty clear that he would have continued in the TDP had he been given the Nandyal ticket.

“Even if he is given the ticket, he will continue in the MLA seat only for two years. There is no guarantee that he would not join the YSRC just before the next assembly elections,” a party source said.
