State Has To Decide The Capital City

Days are going by, but no decision has been taken regarding the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh.

Though Sivaramakrishnan Committee has been appointed to review the pros and cons, it has made it clear that it will only give its advice and that the final decision has to be taken by the state government after consulting the Centre.

In the latest development, Union Minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu has made it clear that the final decision has to be taken by the government of Andhra Pradesh.

He said that the Centre will not interfere in decision-making and he also added that the Centre will not try to rub its decision on the state government.

He also clarified that the Centre would fulfill all its promises made to newly emerged states.

Venkaiah also said that the Centre would extend the same treatment to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana that it was extending to other new states.

Now that the Centre has made it clear that it would not interfere in the issue of new capital, it remains to be seen how Chandra Babu will tackle this issue.
