After a series of electoral debacles in the recent past, several Congress leaders in Telangana, too, appear to be going in the way of Telugu Desam Party leaders in securing their political future in the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
The latest instance is that of Congress Rajya Sabha member Rapolu Ananda Bhaskar, who is considered to be a hard core loyalist of the party and particularly, Sonia Gandhi family.
A formal journalist who had worked in Udayam and other Telugu dailies, Rapolu became an active Congress worker and was a close follower of former PCC president D Srinivas.
He was a silent worker in Gandhi Bhavan, till Sonia Gandhi picked him up for the Rajya Sabha seat in 2012. Those days, he claimed himself to be an “Aam Aadmi” of the Congress party who got recognition from the party president. He also played a key role in the Telangana movement.
However, with his Rajya Sabha term coming to an end in the next couple of years and the Congress party future appearing very bleak, Rapolu is said to be eyeing the TRS to secure his position in politics.
Moreover, his guru and mentor D Srinivas has already joined the TRS and become an MLC. So, Rapolu has no option but to follow his godfather.
Of late, Rapolu has been praising the TRS government. On Monday, he lavished praises on the Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha programmes of the KCR government and called upon the people of all sections, irrespective of political affiliations, to support these programmes.
