The Centre is learnt to have written to the Andhra Pradesh government over Polavaram dam and expressed serious concern on the progress of the project.
The Centre, which promised to fund about 90 per cent of the project cost, is upset that until now just 2 per cent of the works were completed despite granting Rs 600 crore in advance.
Polavaram Project Authority CEO, Dinesh Kumar, IAS, had also written to the AP government that he would come to inspect the progress of the project shortly and asked the government to take action against the contractors for delaying the construction of the project.
According to officials, Transtroy company, which is dealing the project construction, had freshly appealed to make a payment of Rs 500 crore.
The officials could not carry the works forward with the contractors demanding more money, while AP is silent on the issue as Transtroy belongs to an important politician in the ruling party.
