Shamshabad Airport To Be Named After NTR?

If Telugu Desam Party president and Chief minister-designate for Andhra Pradesh Nara Chandrababu Naidu has his way, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad would be renamed after late Chief Minister N T Rama Rao.

Addressing the party’s Mahanadu on the second day organized at Gandipet, the TDP president reminded that Shamshabad airport was earlier named after NTR. But the previous Congress government headed by Y S Rajasekhara Reddy changed it in the name of Rajiv Gandhi. “But, now, after consulting the Union government it would be named as NTR airport,” he added.

Perhaps, for that reason, Naidu has ensured that his close aide Ashok Gajapathi Raju was given Civil Aviation Portfolio, say sources.

The TDP president is also likely to lobby with Modi government to see that NTR be awarded “Bharat Ratna” posthumously.
