SC okays KCR decision on entry tax!

Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by Andhra Pradesh Travels Association against Inter-State tax on vehicles entering into the Telangana State from Andhra Pradesh and directed the Hyderabad High Court to expedite the case filed by the client.

The Supreme Court dismissed the AP Travels Association’s petition seeking to grant an interim stay on the inter-State road tax on vehicles.

It may be recalled the Telangana State government had decided to collect Entry Tax from the vehicles entering into Telangana State from Andhra Pradesh State.

Opposing the Telangana State government’s decision, the AP Travels Association approached the Hyderabad High Court. However, the High Court directed the AP vehicles to pay the entry tax to the Telangana State government. Then AP Travels Association approached Supreme Court alleging that thousands of vehicles from Andhra Pradesh will travel to common capital Hyderabad for the purpose of education, health and business and it was not proper to the Telangana State to collect huge taxes.

AP Travels Association pointed out to the Supreme Court that Hyderabad is a common capital for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States for 10 years.

After hearing both sides, Supreme Court dismissed the petition and directed the High Court to complete the inquiry at the earliest.
