Sacking of Rajaiah Didn't Stop Swine Flu!

Sacking of Rajaiah Didn't Stop Swine Flu!

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao sacked former Deputy Chief Minister T Rajaiah for his inept handling of the swine flu epidemic which claimed several lives. Though corruption was said to be the actual reason, the immediate provocation for Rajaiah’s dismissal was that he tried to play down swine flu deaths.

Now, it is nearly a week since Rajaiah was sacked and the health portfolio was handed over to Dr Laxma Reddy. Surprisingly, there has been more number of swine flu deaths in the State ever since the new minister took over.

Soon after taking oath, Laxma Reddy visited Gandhi Hospital and gave a build-up saying he would take all precautions to check swine flu. But since then, the toll has been mounting every day and number of cases has been going up.

So, it is pretty evident that sacking a minister and change in portfolio is not a solution to swine flu. It has been happening because the government has failed to alert people and create awareness among them about the dreaded virus. The authorities should have set up screening camps everywhere and supply masks to the people. Instead, they threw the blame on Rajaiah and got him sacked.
