The media reports that the Telangana government has fixed a salary of nearly Rs 2 lakh including perks to Telangana official languages commission chairman D Prabhakar Rao baffled many people.
As per the reports, Prabhakar Rao will get Rs 1 lakh as salary, Rs 50,000 as house rent allowance, Rs 30,000 towards car allowance and Rs 15,000 towards fuel, besides driver allowance, two office subordinates, a personal secretary and officer on special duty. This is equal to the facilities being provided to a cabinet minister in the state.
Well, what is this 75-year old gentleman supposed to do? He has to take steps for promotion of Telangana language in all the government offices and see that the correspondence takes place only in that language. But the question is what is meant by Telangana language? Is it different from Telugu language?
As of now, the government offices in Telangana are using Telugu language, which is similar in slang and style to that of Andhra Pradesh. So, there is no such thing called Telangana language as official language. So, why this separate post?
Prabhakar Rao says he will bring out a book on Telangana martyrs. Actually, it is not the job of Official language commission. If somebody gets a salary of Rs 2 lakh a month only to bring out a book, is it not waste of money?
He was not a great journalist like Potturi Venkateshwar Rao or A B K Prasad and the only qualification he has to get into this lucrative post is that he is related to a popular journalist union leader. Hence, so much importance!
