Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has found fault with the selection of Ramnath Kovind as the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Alliance because of his RSS background.
But so far, he has not made up his mind as to whom he would vote for. Interestingly, Owaisi has also not announced that he and his party MLAs would vote for the Opposition candidate Meira Kumar for strange reasons.
“Why this dilly dallying? You should make your party’s stand on supporting or opposing Ramnath Kovind,” senior Congress leader V Hanumanth Rao asked Owaisi.
He questioned why the Owaisi brothers are keeping mum on the issue.
Owaisi might be opposed Ramnath Kovind, but at the same time, he would not support Meira either, because she is a Congress nominee and the MIM has parted ways with the Congress.
If the MIM votes for Meira, it would antagonise the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party in Telangana, which Owaisi does not want.
So, one has to wait and see what strategy Owaisi would adopt – stay neutral or vote for Meira.
VH said that it was shocking to note that efforts are on to defeat Meira Kumar, the opposition candidate, in the election, even though she had played a key role in creation of Telangana State.
