Medak’s TRS candidate won the seat with a huge majority. Though BJP tried its best to win the seat by fielding Jagga Reddy, who they pulled over from the Congress, it failed in its mission.
In fact, prior to the polls, BJP went to the extent of saying that if Jagga Reddy wins the seat, they would make him a minister in union cabinet.
When BJP took in Jagga Reddy, there was lots of internal opposition. Despite claiming that it was a party with principles, bringing in a politician from some other party was disliked by many. They also felt that while Dattanna was denied a cabinet berth, Jagga Reddy was being promised a minister’s post even though he was an outsider.
Meanwhile, talk in political circles is that Jagga Reddy made it into BJP through Pawan Kalyan and it was his recommendation that got him the Medak ticket.
Though many expected Pawan to turn up during the campaigning, Pawan did not bother to show up or get involved in the pre-poll canvassing.
However, Pawan’s name was mentioned prominently during the elections. But it has been proven that his name made little impact on the voters who turned up in hordes to vote for TRS.
While BJP fell flat on its face, the by-election also showed that Congress was the only contender to TRS at least in Telangana.
No matter how hard the BJP tries, it would be a long time before it makes any inroads in Telangana.
