And recently, he chose to curry favor with the minorities once again by awarding a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh to Syeda Falak who had apparently won the gold medal at the USA Open Karate Championship 2016 in Las Vegas in March this year.
The decision to give her the cash prize was taken on the spot by KCR at the 2nd Telangana formation day celebrations. Rs 50 lakh! But here’s the thing!
In response to Sports Authority of Telangana State's (SATS) query dated June 7, Karate Association of India's general secretary Bharat Sharma, earlier this month, stated: “Ms Syeda Falak has been awarded the gold medal in women's team kumite along with Ms Simmi Batta by the organisers as there was no other team to compete.''
It also added “Syeda Falak also participated in women's individual kumite in 68kg and lost in the first round and did not get any medal.” So, the girl was given a gold medal because there were just no competitors.
It’s like getting the first rank when you are the only student in your class. Is that an achievement? Yes, if you have politicians dumb enough to reward you for them without cross-checking facts and who put populism above everything else. Rs 50 lakh!
