Pollution Has Nothing To Do With Gender

In order to curb the alarmingly high levels of pollution in Delhi, the government is coming out with an experiment beginning from January 1, 2016.

According to this, even-numbered cars will be allowed on even dates and odd- numbered cars on odd dates. Women have been exempted from this scheme and it is quite baffling why they have been exempted.

Pollution is not a gender-specific problem. Everyone is affected by it, then why exempt women from it?

Maybe, Kejriwal is doing this because Delhi has a poor record when it comes to women’s safety but still, the solution is to make the capital safer with better policing rather than suck kinds of exemptions.

If the idea of the whole experiment is to drive down the pollution levels, then exempting women from it will encourage more numbers of them to take to four wheelers which again runs contrary to the spirit of the experiment.

Since the women of Delhi also want a clean and pollution- free atmosphere, they will not complain if they are also made part of this drive. For all said and done, pollution is not gender-specific.
