The indiscriminate increase in the cost of Polavaram project, just because the Centre has decided to bear the entire cost, is only meant for filling the pockets of Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh.
This was alleged by YSR Congress party leaders. They said the project works were given to the AP government only to help Naidu and Lokesh to get their kickbacks, YSRC legislator Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy said.
He alleged that the ruling TDP was mobilizing huge funds for the next elections and the Polavaram project and Amaravati works came in handy.
“In the first year the government took land pooling at Amaravati, later Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme and now Polavaram project, he accused.
He commented that TDP MLAs and MPs competing with each other for securing several irrigation package works and are enhancing the estimations.
“Polavaram project estimation cost increased from Rs 16,000 crore to Rs 45,000 crore and the state government allotted Rs.7,000 crore only. How can it complete the project before 2018,” Chevireddy said.
