OU Students Up In Arms Against KCR

It looks like the students of Osmania University who had stood solidly behind the Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao during his fight for separate State, are now up in arms against him.

The OU students are strongly opposing the KCR government’s decision to regularize services of contract employees.

On Monday, tension prevailed in the OU campus, the nerve center during Telangana agitation, as the students staged a dharna in protest against KCR’s decision.

On knowing about the arrival of IT Minister K Taraka Ramarao (KTR) to attend a program on the campus, students in large number staged dharna and raised slogans against the decision of the KCR government. However, the police arrested the agitating students and whisked them away from the place.

Meanwhile, the Opposition parties have come in support of OU students. Former MPs of Telangana condemned lathi-charge on the Osmania University students for protesting against regularization of contract employees by the KCR government.

They demanded that the TRS should implement its manifesto promises, including “one job to each house” and resolve the issue by holding a discussion with the students on employment opportunities.

Four former MPs Madhu Yaskhi, G Vivek, Ponnam Prabhakar and Rajaiah criticized the TRS Government for its adamant attitude towards the students, who played a key role in Telangana movement.

They sought to know why the government failed to call a meeting with the students even before the police resorting to a lathi-charge. They demanded that the government fulfill its commitment and resolve the issue.
