OMG: Hundis For AP Capital City?

Well, Andhra Pradesh will surely be one-of-its-kind state to set off a precedent of setting up hundis to collect money for its new capital city.

The government has decided to set up hundis at strategic points to facilitate people to donate voluntarily for the development of the new capital city which will boast of world-class infrastructure.

Subsequently, three hundis are being set up in different locations. Already, a hundi has been set up in the L Block of the Secretariat.

Sitting tall at six-feet, the hundi has the state emblem of the Andhra Pradesh government and a request asking people to donate according to their means. Another two hundis have been placed one each at Lake View Guest House and at the CM’s residence in Jubilee Hills.

Now everyone is talking about how people who donate in substantial amounts would want to do so publicly and make sure they get ample publicity in media, rather than silently make donations through hundis. Meanwhile, the government continues to go ahead with its agenda.
