Chandrababu Naidu while participating in the Bathukamma festival at Kukatpally in Hyderabad interacted with the electronic media where he said that statues of Telangana freedom fighters will be installed in Vijayawada.
What is clearly understood here is that it is a unilateral decision being taken by Mr Naidu without considering the sentiments of the Seemandhra people.
For years during the Telangana agitation, people of Seemandhra faced intolerable abuse from their Telangana counterparts and were unfairly labeled as ‘liars’, ‘exploiters’, ‘dogs’ and what not?
For Mr. Naidu to now announce statues of Telangana leaders in Vijayawada only with the intention of coming back to power in Telangana also, is definitely not acceptable.
The people of Seemandhra voted Mr Naidu to power despite the fact that he gave an open letter in support of Telangana, for he appeared to be best option among the worst.
But when decisions need to be taken where the self-respect of the Seemandhra people is concerned, he would be better off thinking twice before making any populist announcements.
We do not need to be hostile to the Telangana people, but neither do we need to be affectionate to them.
LET US JUST BE CIVIL AND FORMAL in our attitude towards them for they have long ago lost our respect and affection.
Statues of Telangana leaders in Vijayawada or any part of Seemandhra is just not acceptable!
