No Takers For Naidu's Capital Shift Plan

No Takers For Naidu's Capital Shift Plan

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to operate the government from Vijayawada by shifting the government offices and administration from Hyderabad appears to have not many takers.

Though Naidu wants to shift the administration to Vijayawada in order to create confidence among the people there, many of his Cabinet colleagues, besides officials are not in favour of completely moving to Vijayawada. They are of the view that the shifting of administration amounted to conceding the capital to Telangana.

"If we move to Vijayawada so soon, it sends a message to the people that AP is losing its right over Hyderabad much before the completion of 10 years,” they argue.

However, Naidu does not agree with this argument. According to him, it is difficult to understand the needs of the people in AP sitting in Hyderabad.

“It gives a feeling of running administration from foreign soil. At least, we have to operate for four days a week from Vijayawada,” he said and gave the same instructions to offiicials.

Even Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao and Advisor to Government (Communications) Parakala Prabhakar too expressed their willingness to move to Vijayawada soon and continue to monitor from there.

The sub-collector's camp office of Krishna district in Vijayawada is being upgraded as the camp office for the Chief Secretary while Parakala is yet to identify his camp office there.

Prabhakar said thought the administration moved to Vijaywada, AP would continue to enjoy its rights over the common capital of Hyderabad for full 10 years.

"We shall continue to strive for protecting the interests of the people of Andhra Pradesh living in different parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad,” he said.
