New Capital Has No Place For Cattle

A new problem has cropped up for officials trying to procure land under land pooling.

While there has been a lot of criticism regarding taking farm lands for capital development, the latest problem comes in the form of farm animals.

Well, the government has identified nearly 29 villages in the area. Of course, the land will be used for construction. But what will happen to the cattle from the villages and how will they be rehabilitated is the big question now.

It is being estimated that there are nearly 20,000 farm animals in these villages. Similarly, there are nearly 3.5 lakh hens.

The farmers are requesting the authorities to allot them some land to make sure that their cattle have access to fresh grass.

However, the urban development authorities are not happy with the proposal. Their argument is that if they allow for cattle zones, they would pose a problem for the city that will soon be developed here.

Yet, there is no clarity about what they intend to do with cattle and if they have an alternate plan for them.

It is also not clear if they will pay compensation for farm animals and settle the matter.

It is being said that the government has not thought on these lines till the problem arose. The urban development officers maintain that they haven’t got any orders or directives regarding cattle rehabilitation from higher authorities.
