Mekapati praises Modi, but not to quit YSRC

Nellore MP and senior YSR Congress party leader Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy on Wednesday clarified that he was not quitting the party as was rumoured in a section of media, but said he did not approve of dynastic rule in any party.

Mekapati admitted that he had issued statements in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Describing Modi as a great leader, he said he had wholeheartedly supported his schemes like Swachch Bharat and Jan Dhan Yojana.

He also asserted that he was participating in Janmabhoomi programmes of AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and had appreciated Rs 1,000 pension scheme for old people.

In the same breath, Mekapati said it was time Jagan should follow democratic principles in the party.

“In a democratic set-up, there is no place for dynastic rule. Jagan has to understand this,” he said.

He, however, made it clear that he was not going to leave the YSR Congress party.

“When I joined this party from Congress, I had quit the MP seat. If I have to leave YSR Congress, I would do so only after resigning from the MP seat,” he said.
