The other day, Leader of Opposition and YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy made a critical comment against Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu saying that the latter had no knowledge of English.
And Naidu shot back saying that he was a post-graduate and a research scholar; and so, it was ridiculous to say that he did not know English.
But Naidu had to face this language problem at the Apex Council meeting on river water sharing in Delhi last week.
Naidu does not know Hindi – he can neither understand nor speak. His English language skills also are not so good; though he can understand and also speak English, but not so fluently.
On the other hand, his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao can speak and understand both Hindi and English fluently.
But Union water resources minister Uma Bharati cannot speak English, though she can understand it a bit; and she is fluent in chaste Hindi.
So, when Naidu had to give his presentation on Krishna and Godavari water sharing in English, Uma Bharati had no clue as to what he was saying.
And Naidu had to take the help of his officials to explain her the contents of his presentation partly in Hindi and partly in English.
On the other hand, KCR gave his presentation in Hindi, which she could understand completely. Naturally, he had the advantage over Naidu!
